vamooosh!

it was fun while it lasted, that weekend. it was already a great great getaway from the schoolwork, shabby cafeteria food, stupid thick text books, the morning and late night traffic. well most of the morning and late night traffic.

FRIDAY:

i brought home two hopias the size of frisbee pads. i won them in the chinese dice game we had earlier that friday. my teacher said i was really lucky to have won the first and second prizes. i mean whoah, wasn't it obvious enough? i took one to my dad (he almost finished everything!) who happened to be in town in edsa shangrila. my sister and i decided to stay with him overnight. i cut my chemistry class to get packing and start my darling weekend. we got in the hotel around 4pm and went to the mall to get some of my dad's hardware stuff. i don't really mind going to the mall just to stay at the hardware shop, in fact i enjoy being there with my dad. he's so cute with his phone's 'to do' list. i love you, dad. we got a can of spray paint for some chipped parts of his car, a can of wd 40, an all time around lubricant-- he even picked the can he called 'sexy' hahaha that was really funny, some windshield wipers, rollers for his luggage, a cutter, and a steel brush.

when we got back at the hotel, we ate a great buffet meal at the nice ballroom in the lobby. then we left dad because he had to attend his program which was awesome--- it was a james bond theme event. cool hu? we hit the pool immediately after. it was a gorgeous 9-foot pit. just lovely. i think we might have wallowed in there for more than two hours. there were no people. just the way we like it. :D then we went up, showered and slept. dad came in at about 4am. :) SATURDAY:

dad left 7am for his trip home to cagayan. when he has gone, my sister and i went down to the lobby and got ourselves lovely pancakes fer breakfast. we swam again right after. :) then we checked out. mom arrived later that day from cagayan. (yeah i have weird parents) it was lola's birthday kasi and she had to be in manila for her trip to jerusalem the next day. (that's not a joke, nor a game haha) and then a grand family reunion happened in a restaurant for lola's birthday. it was a buffet style course again. i was sooo full. :D we had ice cream taken out after. ahhh. :) SUNDAY:

mom left for jerusalem super early and my younger sister arrived from cagayan (uh huh keeps getting weirder and weirder) she had this interview for a foreign exchange program in UP the next day. we took her to the mall, shopped fer a lot of stuff and got some shirts for our brother (but he's not coming here anytime soon. hahahaha) until monday, my sister was here and we were having a great time. she left at 6pm today.

it was a happy weekend. i missed my folks and they came. i wanted a break and i got it. no schoolwork due, no hassle homeworks and quizzes, just pure unadulterated fun. :D thanks, god. :)

raimund marasigan thoughts

THIS BLOG ENTRY IS A COMPILATION OF SKATE OR DIE, A SERIES OF POSTS OF RAIMUND MARASIGAN IN THE SANDWICH YAHOO GROUP. I THINK SOMETHING HAPPENED OR A LOT WERE SAID OR SOME AWFUL THINGS GOT RUMORED THAT JUST MADE SUGAR RAIMS RANT THIS MUCH. SCREW THOSE PEOPLE. GET YOURSELVES SOME BUSINESSES AND LIVES WILL YA? THIS POST JUST MAKES ME SO PROUD I AM A TRUE BLUE ERASERHEADS FAN. I ADMIRE ALL OF THEM INDIVIDUALLY AND AS A BAND. THANK YOU RAIMUND AND YOU GUYS ARE ALL AWESOME. YOU'RE THE BESTEST. :) HERE GOES.

FIRST THING'S FIRST: ERASERHEADS IS GREAT TOGETHER. AND THEY ARE BETTER FRIENDS THAN EVER. *I TOOK TIME TO CRY BECAUSE OF THIS*

LOOK! SEE? TOLD YA!
to whom it may concern

i dont usually rant but ive been hearing reports about people
questioning why we played saguijo after the concert.

first things first. when marlboro pulled out and cancelled the show a
week ago, the band was free of all obligation to play the show. if it
was about the money we could have just walked away fully paid no
explanations to the press or anybody. free from the contract. the band
decided to play nevertheless. the tickets and the prices was for the
new promoters to buy out the production from philip morris to put it
simply. contrary to what some people think it takes money to stage a
concert. stage, lights, and video screens don't magically grow out of
the ground. that's what the ticket prices were for. the band was not
in the negotiation meetings between the the two promoters and we did
not want to be in the meetings.

personally i said just call me cos i'm ready to rock. no extra pay no
contract negotiations. as far as the eheads was concerned were out of
the contract.

but here's what you dont understand. playing music is what we do. we
play when we're happy, play when we're sad, play when we're angry,
play when we're sick, play til we die.

painters paint, writers write, my skateboarding friends skate or die.
when u ask nba superstars what they do in their spare time. they play
basketball.
us musicians, we play. thats what we do. getting paid is a bonus. i
will not apologize for that. when we don't get paid we still play.

we played saguijo because we wanted to, we needed to. our hearts and
souls dictated it. we could just go home and sleep. we did not talk
about it. there was no invites there was no plan. we did not get paid.
we borrowed equipment.

yes ely knew about it. buddy told him the next day. yes pupil was in
saguijo too.

yes marcus buddy and i have lost a parent. we know how it feels.

ive been playing music for more than 30 years. professionally since
1993.there have been a few times when it was me who was unable to
continue the set due to illness. albeit it was a lesser scale and
(thankfully)never reported. it was nonetheless life threatening.ive
had a run in with losing my voice, food poisoning, diarreah
(embarassing) and a few more i do not care to mention that involved
blood and bones. i had to drop out of the set from the eheads, cambio
and sandwich. thankfully there was always someone there to finish the
set for me. and i am thankful that they were there. i did not feel
bad. ive also saved a few shows from other bands when shit happens. we
dont plan this and we dont complain but we still play.

my bmx friends ride with broken bones.

if we finished the eheads show that night you would STILL have found
us in guijo playing after.

yes i visited ely in the hospital yesterday. i hope he recovers soon.
we have a show to finish.

music is life
ill only stop playing when i die.

raym

feel free to replace music with your own passion.

ever since grade 3 when i discovered the yamaha portable keyboard .i
never stopped playing music.and before that i played records on my
portable turntable.

before school, after school, summer and christmas breaks, when i was
alone, when i was with friends i found time to play music.

like all the kids in my street i played street games. i could kick
anybody's ass in sipa (betamax vid) i was good in tumbang preso but i
sucked at jolen.

in my little barrio, we played everything plus more (than the city
kids) we climbed trees, swam rivers, walked railroad tracks and rice
paddies, hiked hills , everything rural kids do.

there was also street basketball, bmx, breakdancing and girls.

in between all of this i always found time to play music.

i knew from that early age that it flowed in my veins.

so don't judge me when i want to play .

with or without an audience, with or without pay.

i play when i fall in love , when my heart gets broken. playing music
healed me when i lost my father. i played when my daughter was born.
(sandwich played baguio the next day).i wake up in the middle of the
night to record tracks in my undies. paradiddles help get me through
road rage.

it sounds corny but music really is my life and most of my friend's
lives.

i find it upsetting that i'm ranting and trying to defend myself from
insensitive people hiding under a pseudonym.

the next day after the concert i was still blue but i managed to
finish a remix for bagetsafonik.

today, to get myself out of a blue funk in bed. i worked on 9 tracks
for a hip hop project with rock ed.

last night. i skated with mong at the fort. i don't call myself a
skateboarder. i just cruise and try to pop some ollies but the real
skaters skate with swollen ankles, bruised wrists and (mong) murdered
toenails.

i bumped into them tonight after dinner. they were smiling and full of
life at midnight. not injured and defeated.

like me, they can't stop.

zappa said "shut up and play yer guitar"

raym

make no mistake. i'm not shoving my music to everybody. in fact my
neighbors are probably tired of it haha. some of my closest friends
and family have no desire to listen to it. my daughter didn't even
know who the eraserheads were when teachers were asking about reunion
rumors. as far as she knows, the good thing about that big show was
trashing my hotel room with buddy and marcus' kids, the big swimming
pool and the air conditioned tents backstage.

if you like what you hear , thank you. if you don't, feel free to try
something else. i don't like anchovies myself.

i was admittedly hesitant about the first reunion. i was not sure if i
could handle the pressure and crap that came with it.at this very moment. i'm actually thinking of doing it again. (when ely gets well and strong of course)

i watched a kid fall after trying to kick flip a 7 step stairway in
u.p. he failed 5 times. but kept getting up. dusted himself . made
some adjustments until he finally nailed it. we all cheered and went
home smiling.

somehow i know how it feels.

ERASERHEADS. ely raimund marcus buddy. ERASERHEADS.

Do not read if you don't want to pee in your pants. SERIOUSLY.
Got this from gela, from ate klara, from her friend maylene (who got it from her friends):

During the second set, the band was to sing ten more songs, in this order:

1. Maskara
2. Poor Man's Grave
3. Torpedo
4. Trip to Jerusalem
5. Back To Me
6. walang Nagbago
7. Maling Akala
8. Tikman
9. Spoliarium
10.Magasin

When Magasin was to be played, the screen behind them would have montages of various news and magazine clippings of them. It would flash alternately with shots of the band and audience until the song reached the coda where Ely sings "...ay centerfold ka naaaa...woo hoo-hoo, haaa-haaa" part of the song. Then there would be fire works and a fountain of sparks, going on til the last note of the song. Then the hydraulic stage would be lowered and the band would make a "fake ending".

The lights would then go out.

The reliable source said the band would wait til the crowd chanted "more". Then in the darkness, a very dramatic keyboard solo would be heard, and it would be the opening chords of Para Sa Masa.

The hydraulic stage would rise again and there they would be.After Para Sa Masa, they'd switch into Overdrive. With the crowed pumped within an inch of insanity they were to hit us with Pare Ko. And then we would slow down and reminisce with Minsan.

Finally, they would perform Huling El Bimbo. Again, after the last refrain, at the coda (la la la laaa...) the grand fireworks display would go off, fountains of light surrounding the stage. The next la-la-la parts would see fireworks from behind the general admissions section, and as the song ended there would be a burst of confetti all over the audience.

Then the hydraulic stage would be lowered for the final exit.

The band, In fact, were so excited about all the gimmicks and couldn't wait to party with the audience. "Nag-usap pa nga sila kung may mga kailangang saluhin na kanta just in case (di na kaya ni Ely)," she said. "And Ely said, hindi, Kakanta ako!"

BUT:
they weren't able to do with this plan sadly. but i'm happy whatever. they had to cut it but who cares about cutting the show. mother of god, i nearly cried when they said ely was rushed to the hospital. i went home praying, til the hour i went to bed i was thinking about it.

FOR THE RECORD:
there is no better show than what happened that night as of now. i love ely, marcus, buddy, raimund. :) thank you. thank you. :) get well soon, ely. GET VERY WELL VERY SOON.
